Department of Pharmacy, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu - India Viewed : 17113 - Downloaded : 4950 Ternary inclusion systems of albendazole (ABZ) with cyclodextrins and carboxylic acids in equimolar ratio were prepared using solvent coevaporation and kneading methods. Differential solubility study results showed that inclusion yields were remarkably increased by hydroxy carboxylic acids especially L-tartaric acid. The yield was higher with the coevaporation method than with the kneading method. Differential scanning calorimetric analysis report was consistent with the above findings and also showed that the free ABZ in the kneaded systems existed in the amorphous state. The higher the inclusion yield, the lower was the dehydration enthalpy of the products, signifying the complex formation. Complex formation was also investigated by phase solubility study, X-ray diffraction analysis, infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The dissolution rate and efficiency depended on the inclusion yield and the method of preparation. A three-fold enhancement in the bioavailability was obtained with the ABZ-HPβCD-tartaric acid ternary coevaporated system.
